Kitchen shelf lowering and raising
A simple gadget to help a wheelchair user pull down the articulated shelves in her kitchen wall units to make maximum use of the storage space.
The Challenge
Our client is a wheelchair user whose kitchen had been re-fitted, and articulated drop-down shelving had been incorporated for ease of access. However, our client was finding it difficult to pull down the shelving using a conventional grabber stick.

The solution
Engineer Ian Brocket initially tested some ideas to see what might work, and then took the ultra-lightweight aluminium telescopic handle from a long reach duster, and made a modified end to hook the cross rail of the shelf and allow it to be easily pulled down, and with a second protrusion to the side to hook under the cross rail to push the shelf back up.

The benefit
This simple gadget means our client can access all of her wall cupboard storage space from her wheelchair.
