Padded toilet seat adaptation
Several years ago, Ian Brocket of the Harrogate & Ripon group modified a commercially available padded toilet seat to cope with a client doing a side transfer onto it, through improving areas such as the hinges which tend to be weak on most toilet seats. The padded toilet seat used as part of that solution had deteriorated over time – and we found it was no longer available for us to simply swap it out for the client.
The solution
After some searching, the nearest seat we could find which gave the client the sort of padding she needed, was much cheaper and more flimsy than the original we used. As a result, Ian needed to significantly reinforce not only the hinges, but the core of the seat itself – which was achieved with aluminium plate.
The new cheaper seat used as part of the solution.
The benefit
The solution can continue in use, and the new padded seat is sufficiently cheap at around £12.50 that we can buy a couple of spares so we don’t hit the problem of availability again.
