Weights for a Walking Frame
The Challenge
The client found that adding weight to her walking frame helped to control it. This was at the suggestion of the hospital physiotherapist who added temporary weights of 1.0 kg to each side of the frame.
The solution
The engineer made four weights of 500gms from aluminium tubes filled with lead and permanently sealed with epoxy resin to prevent any contact with the lead. The centre tube was 40mm longer than the outer and the lead was 10mm shorter than the outer tube to allow 5mm of epoxy seal. Tubes were fixed with jubilee clips.
The benefit
The solution enables the client to control frame.
