Transfer board (“banana board”) for small 3-year-old
The client is a small 3-year-old who uses a wheelchair and is currently assisted by her parents for transfers in and out of her wheelchair. It would be helpful to have a smaller version of the commercially available “banana board” so she can develop independence, and so that her school staff can help her transfer to and from a chair.
The Challenge
The client is a small child and there is no commercially-available transfer board to help her move from her wheelchair to a chair, and vice versa.
The solution
A scaled down version of a ‘banana board’ was made from plywood to the correct size required by the child. The board has been varnished and edges are rounded.
The reverse of the board has non-slip tape at each end to help grip the wheelchair and chair surfaces.
The benefit
The client is a 3-year-old child who can now begin to learn how to transfer herself out of her wheelchair, develeping some independence. This can be assisted in the meantime by staff at her school.
