Bowling wheelchair
This keen indoor bowls player has Poems syndrome and had difficulty using wheelchairs designed for bowlers.
The right hand side of a standard wheelchair was lowered to help with his bowling action and the rear pair of push handles replaced with a single cross bar to improve manoeuvrability. The right hand footrest was removed and the left hand one enlarged and strengthened to support both feet. A pair of large diameter stainless steel rollers replaced the wheels and were positioned to cater for the unusual shape and centre of gravity of the client. Front wheels were set at a zero rake to improve manoeuvrability.
The client was now comfortable when bowling, allowing him to give much better performances now that he was positioned at the right height relative to the green and with a freer arm action.
