The client, who has Parkinson’s disease, found the controls on his shower difficult to operate. The controls were cylindrical and smooth, meaning that there was little for him to grip.  A simple lever was clamped onto the control, making it much easier to operate.

The Challenge

The client, who has Parkinson’s disease, found the controls on his shower difficult to operate. The controls were cylindrical, about 40mm diameter and smooth meaning that there was little for him to grip, particularly with wet hands.

The solution

A simple lever that could be clamped onto the control was fabricated using 3D printing. A 5mm steel pin was inserted into the protruding lever to add strength.  The device was fixed to the control using stainless steel screws.

The benefit

The clients can now use their showers independently.
