Wheelchair slide
Our client’s Occupational Therapist has asked for a slide to be built to allow the child to remove himself from his wheelchair.
The solution
Remap volunteer engineer John Moutrie built a hinged slide that could be deployed to allow the child to remove himself easily from his wheelchair. Rubber cross-strips were added to the slide following initial tests, to slow down the speed of the slide. The slide was then painted blue to suit his tastes…
The benefit
The child can now remove himself from his wheelchair using his slide, and have fun doing so. The slide also helps him to improve his strength as he uses it to pull himself back up into his wheelchair.
