Mobility Scooter Modified Controls
Clare found her mobility scooter very tiring to use, primarily because of difficulty using the thumb-operated throttle lever and the handlebar position, which was too far forward for her. She asked us to switch to foot-pedal operation and to adapt the handlebars.
The Challenge
Clare uses a Rascal Vortex mobility scooter but struggled with the thumb-operated speed control. Also, the handlebar position (which is not adjustable on that model of scooter) was too far forward for her. As a result, she fatigued quickly and could therefore only use it for short periods. She asked us to switch to foot-operated speed control and to move the handlebar position closer to her.
The solution
The REMAP engineers worked closely with Clare’s husband Nathan to find the ideal solution.
We purchased a second speed control and made a bracket/rain cover to attach it to the scooter deck. With some advice from us, Nathan adapted some cycle bar-ends to give Clare a more comfortable position to hold the handlebars.

The benefit
Clare is now able to use the scooter for much longer periods of time without tiring. This greatly increases the distance she can travel and therefore the scope of what she can do.
